"WUTHERING HEIGHTS" (15)
136 mins
Director: Emerald Fennell
Starring: Margot Robbie, Jacob Elordi, Hong Chau, Martin Clunes
Synopsis:
The 2026 film "Wuthering Heights" (with quotation marks! to indicate it is based loosely on the novel)) follows the intense, destructive love between Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff, an orphan taken in by her family. Growing up together on the Yorkshire moors, their bond deepens into passion, but Catherine chooses to marry wealthy Edgar Linton for security. Heartbroken, Heathcliff leaves and later returns rich and vengeful, rekindling a secret affair. Their choices spiral into jealousy, manipulation, and suffering, culminating in Catherine’s tragic death. The film condenses the original novel by Emily Bronte into a dark, obsessive romance, emphasising themes of class, desire, and revenge over generational legacy.

Reviews:
"Style over substance? Not at all -- it’s more that Fennell understands that style can be substance when you do it right." ***** DAILY TELEGRAPH
"It’s all wildly fun, a fever dream come to life, though it’s not without its flaws. As the film lurches towards its ending, the edges do start to fray." **** LONDON EVENING STANDARD
"It’s hard to care about such unsympathetic characters, making any moments of intended emotional or erotic impact fall flat... Mainly, it’s the solid supporting cast that glues the film together." *** TIMEOUT
"This is less a respectful literary adaptation than a come-hither invitation to crawl down the cinema aisle on all fours and lick the screen. I enjoyed it immensely." OBSERVER
