RENTAL FAMILY (12) 105 mins Director: Hikari Starring: Brendan Fraser, Takehiro, Mari Yamamoto Synopsis: In this heartfelt film, Brendan Fraser portrays an American actor in Tokyo struggling to find purpose until he land an unusuak gig with a Japanese "rental family" agency playing stand-in roles for strangers. As he immerses himself in his clients' worlds, he forms genuine bonds and rediscovers purpose and the quiet beauty of human connection. Awards: Reviews: "It might not sound like much of a compliment, but Brendan Fraser is extraordinarily convincing as a marginally talented actor a few years past his sell-by date." **** DAILY TELEGRAPH "As Phillip gets more intertwined in their lives, the plot veers into white saviour territory. Still, there’s a lightness of touch in Hikari’s direction and she draws strong performances from the supporting cast." *** TIME OUT "The film wants to hug you, rather than unsettle. But there are pluses. It is wonderfully filmed by director Hikari, infusing Tokyo with the most astonishing beauty, and there is a clever twist towards the end." * SPECTATOR
